Temple Owls skate past Delaware State

After dropping their home-opener a couple weeks ago, the Temple Owls made a huge statement as they plowed through the Delaware State Hornets by the final score of 59-0.

It was off to the races with no looking back as the Temple dominated from the very minute they stepped on the field. After a strong defensive stand to start the game, Temple’s Samuel Benjamin blocked Delaware State’s Jeremiah McGeough’s punt, leading to the recovery and touchdown by Artel Foster.

Temple only continued to roll over Delaware State with a slew of touchdowns. A fumbled  snap recovered by Jacob Martin led to a two-yard touchdown rush by Kenny Harper. On the very next possession, Temples Khalif Herbin took a Delaware State punt 84 yards for his first career touchdown. Delaware State would not get the ball back for long as Nate D. Smith picked off Gilbert Rivera. On Temple’s drive, a fourth-down conversion led to a four yard touchdown by Jamie Gilmore, also his career first.

Delaware State began to show some sign of life as J.R Robinson intercepted a pass from P.J. Walker. Their drive however led to another punt. Temple’s offense headed back to the field and put another seven on the board as Walker connected with Jalen Fitzpatrick for a 31-yard touchdown.

Delaware State’s struggles continued as Temple defensive end Sharif Finch brought in a pick-six, marking two consecutive games with a interception.

Temple’s only concern in the game came from Walker as he threw two interceptions in the game before he and all the starters were pulled after the first half. Temple would however respond with an interception of their own as Khiry Lucas came up with an interception of his own. The pick led to Harper’s second touchdown of the game.

The attack only continued in the second half as Temple’s Hassan Dixon added another touchdown to the board. Delaware State never got anything going as Temple would run away with the win.

The Owls’ next match-up will take place on Sep. 27 against the Huskies of Connecticut.
