Philadelphia Flyers cut roster from 61 to 39

With their regular season opener in Boston on October 8, the Philadelphia Flyers made their first roster moves on Wednesday.

The Flyers cut their roster of 61 to 39 on Wednesday including sending three prospects to their CHL teams as well as sending 18 players to join the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Flyers must cut an additional 16 players by October 8.

High profiled prospects, Shayne Gotisbehere, Samuel Morin and Scott Laughton are still with the Flyers as of Thursday.

Sent Back to CHL:

Nicolas Aube-Kubel (C/RW):  Aube-Kubel, the Flyers second round pick in this year’s past draft will return to the Val-d’Or Foreurs of the QMJHL. In his two previous seasons for the Foreurs, Aube-Kubel played in 129 games and scored 32 goals with 48 assists for 80 points. In his first game back with Val-d’Or, Aube-Kubel scored two goals.

Radel Fazleev (C/LW): The Flyers 6th round pick in this past year’s draft will return to the Calgary Hitman of the WHL. In his lone season with the Hitman last year, Fazleev put up 5 goals and 20 assists in 38 games. In the playoffs, Fazleev was able to score three goals to go along with four assists in six games.

Travis Sanheim (D): The Flyers first overall pick in this year’s past draft, Sanheim will join teammate Radel Fazleev in Calgary. Sanheim last season showed impressive offensive skills putting up 29 points (5 goals, 24 assists) in 67 games. On Thursday, the Flyers signed Sanheim to his first NHL contract, an Entry Level deal.
