The Bruins seem to be dropping like flies. They are facing another casualty to their defense now that Torey Krug will be out for two to three weeks with a broken finger he sustained in last night’s 4-3 loss against the Minnesota Wild.
When you look back on the past three weeks, the Bruins have lost defensemen Kevan Miller to a shoulder dislocation, defenseman and captain Zdeno Chara to a PCL ligament tear, and now Krug, another defenseman. All of these injuries follow the loss of defensemen Johnny Boychuck in a preseason trade. How many more players could they possibly afford to lose?
Krug has become a very reliable player along with the other two that are sidelined. It is becoming critical that the Bruins regroup and find a new strategy with the loss of these players. They have recalled Joe Morrow and David Warsofsky from Providence in the hopes of changing their blue line and adjusting it to the best of their ability.
Morrow was a good player to recall because he plays similarly to Krug. He has not appeared in any NHL games, but he’s one of the best defensemen in Providence, is a really good skater, knows how to get through a power play, and has really good decision making skills on the ice.
It might be best to start either Morrow or Warsofsky instead of Matt Bartkowsky. He has not performed as well as he should. He has shown poor puck management and has been having trouble in the defensive zone.
A projected defensive lineup for Thursday night’s game against Buffalo will be Dougie Hamilton, Dennis Seidenberg, Adam McQuaid, Zach Trotman, Matt Bartkowski, and either Morrow or Warsofsky.
If you ask me, it looks like the Bruins are facing a bit of defensive karma after this Boychuck trade, and it’s making everyone wonder if they will be able to recover from this and start winning games without their most important players.
