The Sanchise Era has officially begun in Philadelphia. Your starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles for the foreseeable future is Mark Sanchez. But the question that is being thrown around is do you believe in Sanchez?
Do you trust him to lead the 6-2 Eagles through the rest of November and December and possibly into the playoffs? Well, I’m here today to tell you why you should have trust and faith in him to lead this team on the road to victory.
Sanchez, who is infamously known for the butt fumble that happened on Thanksgiving night in the 2012 season, now has a chance to revive his career.
The revival of his career began last Sunday against the Houston Texans. When Nick Foles left the game with a fractured clavicle, Sanchez stepped in on the Eagles next drive.
On his first play, Sanchez found wide receiver Jeremy Maclin for a 50-yard reception and got the team into the red zone. Later in the drive, Sanchez connected with rookie wide receiver Jordan Matthews for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.
Expect to see the Sanchez-Matthews connection a lot for the rest of the season as the two developed a strong chemistry during the preseason. The Eagles’ next game is against the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football. This is the prime opportunity for Sanchez to prove himself and to show that he still got it.
Sanchez did not play during his final season with the Jets due to a season-ending shoulder injury. That was also the rookie season of quarterback Geno Smith.
People forgot that Sanchez did have two great seasons in New York. In the 2009 season as a rookie, Sanchez took the Jets all the way to the AFC Championship, where they ran up against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
Then in the 2010 season, he again took the Jets to the AFC Championship where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Remember Sanchez did this with receivers such as Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery, Dustin Keller and Santonio Holmes.
With the Eagles, Sanchez has more weapons at his disposal and should be able to make plays. Now I’m not saying that Sanchez will lead the Eagles to the NFC Championship, even though the NFC is wide open. I am saying that Sanchez should be able to keep the Eagles above .500 with eight games left in the season. Of the Eagles’ last eight games, three of the games are against playoff teams from last season. The other four games are against NFC East division rivals including the Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys.
The next six to eight weeks in the Eagles’ season will be telling but one thing that fans have to remember is to have to faith in Sanchez and you never know where he can take this team.
