Week 12 wrap-up: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tennessee Titans

Rajon Rondo, John Wall

After a dismal Sunday afternoon against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, the Philadelphia Eagles bounced back in a major way as they defeated the Tennessee Titans by the final score of 43-24.

Most expected the Eagles to come out the gate fast against a struggling Tennessee Titans team, but the Birds took it to a higher level when Josh Huff took the opening kick 107 yards for the quick score. Huff’s return was the longest in Eagles history and put the team up in just 13 seconds.

After the defense held the Titans to a three-and-out on their first possession, LeSean McCoy had the bounce-back drive he was looking for as he racked up 31 yards before a four-yard Darren Sproles touchdown. The touchdown gave the Eagles two scores in just the first 4:16 of the game.

Tennessee finally came up with some answers as the first half progressed as Brandon Ghee picked off Mark Sanchez to give them the ball in Eagles’ territory. The turnover led to a Zach Mettenberger tipped ball, which fell into the hands of wide-receiver Justin Hunter for a 40-yard touchdown.

The Titans’ first half scoring would not be finished as Mettenberger led another drive that was capped by a two-yard touchdown run by running back Shonn Greene. Mettenberger finished the first half 8/15 with 170 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles quickly responded with a 69-yard drive of their own ending in a two-yard McCoy touchdown run. A pair of Cody Parkey field goals kept the Eagles up by 10 at the end of the first half although Parkey missed from 49 with 10 seconds left in the half.

Early in the second half, the Eagles found the endzone once again. After an eventful throw from Zach Mettenberger which was tipped, caught, fumbled, Nate Allen came up with the recovery to give the Eagles the ball. As a result, Sanchez found tight end James Casey for a 14-yard touchdown.

It would not be long until another turnover frenzy occurred when Sanchez threw an interception to Daimion Stafford before the Titans’ Bishop Sankey fumbled, giving the ball right back. The Eagles took advantage with a 35-yard field-goal from Parkey. From there, the Eagles maintained the lead and trotted off the field with their eighth victory of the season, farther separating from the Cowboys for first place in the NFC East.

This coming Thursday, the Eagles will head into perhaps the most exciting game of the year as they head to AT&T Stadium to take on the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving afternoon.
