Penn State offers Arrington’s adopted son

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Peter Laviolette talks to David Tanabe during a break in the third period of their NHL hockey game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit

James Franklin and his staff have preached about family since arriving on campus last January. Last February, LaVar Arrington told fans at the Nittany Lions signing day celebration that, “We’re getting the family back together.”

On Tuesday, Franklin and his staff made that literal by offering Arrington’s adopted son Oluwole Betiku, a weak-side defensive end out of Gardena, CA. Betiku is currently ranked as the 25th best weak-side defensive end in the 2016 class, and the 526th top player nationally. He currently holds 12 offers from schools that include Arizona State, Florida State, Notre Dame, Miami, and Oklahoma.

Betiku’s story is quite remarkable. Just two years ago, Oluwole was still living in Nigeria where he could usually be found play basketball or soccer. The recruits first official offer was Maryland who offered the junior before he played a single snap of high school football. Now, just a season into his high school career the Nigerian born has racked up 12 offers with schools like USC and Vanderbilt showing interest as well.
