It looks like the cap casualties are continuing for the Philadelphia Eagles as fan favorite and veteran outside linebacker Trent Cole days are done.
According to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com, the Eagles will be releasing Trent Cole, after the two sides could not come to an agreement on a revised contract. Caplan also adds that Cole will be released in the next 24 hours.
Yesterday, it seemed like both parties were working towards a deal but according to Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com, he heard that talks were not going well with Cole or Brandon Graham.
With Cole’s impending departure, the Eagles will create $8.425 million in cap space to go towards free agency. Cole spent his entire career with the Eagles as he was selected in the 2005 draft. The 10-year veteran had 85.5 sacks, 569 tackles and 19 forced fumbles in 155 games with the birds.
The release of Cole means a couple of things. The Eagles will sign an outside linebacker in free agency or they might just re-sign Brandon Graham. Do not expect Graham to re-sign though as he wants to explore free agency and see what he can get on the open market.
An option for the Eagles could be former Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Jason Worilds. Worilds was released last month by Pittsburgh and would be a perfect fit for Philadelphia’s 3-4 defense.
