It looks like Andy Reid will be bringing one of his former players to Kansas City. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin plans to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs, when the free agent market opens on Tuesday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media also adds that Maclin turned his attention to Kansas City, after talks broke down with the Eagles. With Maclin almost seemingly departing for Kansas City, it leaves a big hole in the Eagles offense as they have already traded away running back LeSean McCoy.
This past season, Maclin had a fantastic year taking the lead as the number one receiver as DeSean Jackson departed for Washington. He had 1,318 receiving yards on 85 receptions and 10 touchdowns; this is after missing the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL.
Maclin finishes his Eagles career with 343 receptions for 4,771 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns. It will be interesting to see what the Eagles offered Maclin but for Kansas City to make room for him they will most likely release wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.
The Eagles wide receiver core now consists of Jordan Matthews, Riley Cooper, Josh Huff and Jeff Maehl. A lot of fans are confused at what Chip Kelly’s plan is right now and to be honest I think he trusts his system way too much.
