Eagles fans should get to know Quinten Rollins

Throughout the offseason, Philadelphia Eagles fans have been clamoring for help at the cornerback position. While the additions of Byron Maxwell and Walter Thurmond are helpful, it will be important for the Eagles to have young depth at the position.

One player that could be targeted in the upcoming NFL Draft is cornerback Quinten Rollins out of Miami University (OH). In his latest NFL Mock Draft, Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has Rollins landing in the second round to the Eagles at pick 52. What the story does not tell is the tremendous upside and value the pick could provide.

For four years, Rollins played for the Miami University basketball team as their starting point guard. Rollins then picked up football again after the four-year hiatus and not only made the team, he became a starter and recorded seven interceptions in just one season for the RedHawks.

Eagles fans should take note of Rollins because of the tremendous upside he still has. He has played just one season of college football and has already displayed tremendous ball hawking ability, something that the previous members of the secondary seemed to struggle with. In fact, Rollins was a ball hawk in basketball; finishing 12th in MAC history with 214 steals. If Rollins can find a niche that does not expose his lack of speed (ran a 4.57 at the combine), like nickel cornerback, he could be a tremendous pick.

By picking Rollins in the second round, the Eagles could use their first round pick to focus on some other needs. Rollins may need some seasoning at the next level, but because Thurmond is signed to a one-year deal, he can develop behind veterans. Chip Kelly is committed to finding guys who fit his system, and Rollins can give Kelly a very intriguing prospect for the next couple of years.
