This offseason around the NovaCare Complex, it seems as if the trade winds are always blowing but you never know in which direction that may be. So far this offseason, the Eagles have already made two trades, trading quarterback Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams and running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills. But could another trade be on the horizon?
Well, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, he mentions that the Eagles are “willing to trade” cornerback Brandon Boykin. This should not be a surprise to any Eagles fan because as we know Chip Kelly is in the process of building this team his way. Think about it, majority of the Eagles playmakers on the offensive side from the past two seasons are gone.
Boykin, who was drafted by former Eagles head coach Andy Reid in 2012, has had a solid career thus far as a slot cornerback. As a rookie, he played in all 16 games, had five pass deflections and a forced fumble. But in the 2013 season, Boykin exploded onto the scene as he had six interceptions, 17 pass deflections and two forced fumbles. One of Boykin’s most memorable interceptions came on the final week of the 2013 season as he intercepted Dallas Cowboys quarterback Kyle Orton to seal the victory for the Eagles and the NFC East championship.
This past season was much quieter for Boykin as he only had an interception and only nine pass deflections. In some games, it looked like he disappeared and did not make an impact.
If the Eagles do trade Boykin possibly to the Dolphins, Salguero outlines what they could get in return:
“There is, obviously, a possibility the Eagles may want to move up from their No. 20 draft spot to get to Miami’s No. 14. There is, obviously, the possibility giving up No. 14 for No. 20 in the first round plus Boykin makes sense if the receiver or cornerback the Dolphins covet at No. 14 is gone. Keep that in mind.”
Finally, it seems like there are multiple scenarios for the Eagles if they want to trade Boykin and move up a few picks but at this point it is all talk. We will what develops over the next few weeks as the NFL Draft is later this month.
