Tonight, the Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to TD Garden to take on the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Tonight’s game had a little bit of everything, but the show belonged to LeBron James as he scored 31 points to led the Cavs to a 103-95 victory. The last time James played Boston at TD Garden in the playoffs was back in the 2009-10 season where the Cavs ultimately lost Game 6 in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
In tonight’s game, James had a double-double consisting of 31 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 13 of 26 from the field. The entire game was tightly contested as Boston gave Cleveland all they could handle, especially in the second quarter, where the Celtics were down 38-31 with 8:12 to go.
Boston went a 9-0 run as Evan Turner converted a layup to give the Celtics a 40-38 lead. The two teams traded baskets back and forth when the Cavaliers retook the lead with 48.9 seconds to go in the first half. Cleveland led 50-48 and went on a 6-0 to close out the half leading 56-48 thanks to six points from James.
The rest of the game, the Celtics tried to hang tough with the Cavaliers but it was not enough as James continued to show his dominance. In the beginning of the fourth quarter, he scored seven straight points to give Cleveland a commanding 91-82 lead.
Once again, Boston made a furious comeback being only down 95-92 with 2:45 to go in the game as Turner knocked down a huge three-pointer. But just when the Cavs needed a clutch basket, they got two three-pointers from Kevin Love in the last 2:13 of the game to seal the 103-95 victory.
With the win, Cleveland is now one win away from sweeping the Celtics and advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals.
