On Friday, the Cincinnati Bengals announced that former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor along with seven other players were invited to the team’s weekend minicamp. For Pryor, this is great news as he was just released on Tuesday by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Pryor was only with the Chiefs for less than four months, as he has not been given a fair chance since being a 2011 supplemental draft pick of the Oakland Raiders.
In 2013, Pryor finally got the chance to show the NFL what kind of quarterback he was, after not playing the first two years in Oakland. During the 2013 season, he played in 11 games (started nine), threw for 1,798 yards, seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also had 576 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
But his time would eventually come to an end in Oakland as in the 2014 NFL Draft the Raiders selected quarterback Derek Carr in the second round. Pryor in the 2014 preseason was on the Seattle Seahawks roster but could not beat out Tarvaris Jackson for the backup quarterback spot.
With the Bengals, Pryor has a chance to make the team as their current backup quarterbacks are AJ McCarron and Josh Johnson. Despite him not having success latching on to a team to play quarterback, many analysts believe that 6-foot-6, 240 lb Pryor should be tried out at wide receiver or another position.
But according to ESPN’s Coley Harvey, Pryor said “If I can’t play quarterback, I can’t play football.” Hopefully, Pryor performs well this weekend because he is a very talented and athletic quarterback.
