Phillies call up Domonic Brown, demote Darin Ruf

UGLY

After today’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Philadelphia Phillies made a roster move. According to Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal, the Phillies sent down first baseman/outfielder Darin Ruf to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and called up outfielder Domonic Brown.

This move was not a surprise as Ruf has been struggling this season in limited at-bats. The 28-year-old has batted .238 with only three home runs, 10 RBI and 25 strikeouts. Maybe being down at Triple-A will help Ruf get his game back on track with more at-bats.

On the other hand, it looks like the Phillies are giving Dom Brown another chance. Last season, Brown struggled only batting .235 with 10 home runs and 63 RBI. That was a down season in comparison to the 2013 season, where Brown was named an all-star. He had 27 home runs and 83 RBI with a slash line of .272/.324/.494.

We can only wonder to what to expect from Brown as it looked like he was going to be the starting right fielder but was slowed down with left Achilles tendinitis during Spring Training. He had a chance to play with the big league club in April but the Phils decided to keep him at Triple-A. This season at Lehigh Valley, Brown had two home runs and 26 RBI while batting .257.
