Just Outlast: Survivor Picks Week 2

2015-03-07 01_26_56

Welcome to week two, everybody. If your week one was anything like mine, you were most likely biting your nails up until the time ran out in the fourth quarter.

Like most opening weeks, this one wasn’t without its upsets. It was a difficult week to call, and this week promises to be much of the same.

If you went against my advice and tried to pull your Seattle card early in a division game, well then I guess you’re reading this from the other side. But assuming you survived, let’s see what we can do to get you to week three. If you’re following along, the Dolphins are off the board.

Matchups That Will Help You Breathe Easy:

Tennesee Titans over the Cleveland Browns: Between the stunning debut of Marcus Mariota, and the all out beating the Browns took at the hands of the Ryan Fitzpatrick led New York Jets, I don’t see this as the Browns bounce back game, that is if they are good enough to have one at all this season.

St. Louis Rams over the Washington National Football Team: The Rams looked really good against the Seahawks last week (which might have knocked some of you out). I don’t want to get into a habit of constantly picking a single team’s opponent, but Nick Foles knows the Washington defense really well. The last two times Foles faced Washington, he went a combined 44 for 67 for 623 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. This seems like one of the safer bets out there this week. But be careful of safe bets, sometimes they are trap games. However I don’t see that happening this early in the season.

Matchups That Will Give You Heartburn:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints: It’s pretty hard to go into New Orleans and pull away with a victory under normal circumstances. The Saints should have no problem putting away the subpar competitor after their loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week. However, it’s a division game and my superstition will always make me leery of those. I think the Saints will win, but proceed with caution.

Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants: If you were the Giants, you would be pissed about their first loss of the season last week. Their determination will be the X-Factor against Atlanta’s high-powered offense. The Giants’ defense gives them a chance if they can stop Julio Jones, making this one a little uncomfortable to call.

Matchups That Might Cost You Money:

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers: After the overtime loss last week, the Seahawks are going to come out swinging. Unfortunately, they will have to try to get their first victory of the year against the Packers. With both teams in the upper-echelon of the NFC, this could be one of many playoff previews we see this season. Kam Chancellor, come out, come out wherever you are.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles: The hatred that both these teams harbor for each other is second to none. The Eagles need a win after their Monday Night Football loss to the Falcons, and the Cowboys want to silence all of the offseason chatter. Even without Dez Bryant, this is a coin flip. The Eagles fan in me says that they will emerge victorious, but I’m not prepared to risk my survivor pool life on it just yet.

So this week, I am going with the St. Louis Rams as my pick overall. Despite picking Washington’s opponent last week as well, Foles’s numbers against Washington speak for themselves. Hope to see you in week three!

Just in case you’re following along:
