In six days, a group of 32 of the best Ultra Street Fighter IV players in the world will compete in San Francisco, California at the 2015 Capcom Cup. It is a double elimination tournament with a top prize of $250,000 going to whoever can hadouken, shoryuken, or sonic boom their way through the field.
Only the Evolution Championship Series (or “EVO”) has had this much hype around it in recent years, and with the growing numbers in eSports popularity, fighting game communities (or “FGC”s), the 2015 Capcom Cup promises to be one of the best events in history.
People who have known me for any amount of time already know that I am a giant nerd when it comes to Street Fighter. I’ve said this much to my Total Sports Live comrades. There’s only so much that I can do and say to get everyone excited for this event, so I decided to enlist some help in getting folks ready for this huge tournament.
Emily Ginnona — known to many as “Jemmillion” — is a wonderful organizer of tournaments and events here in the Philadelphia area. She is a regular at the Philly FGC where many people get together on Friday nights at Temple University to play games like Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tekken, and Mortal Kombat. She recently finished up organizing a tournament in Atlantic City, and has a brand new show which debuted yesterday on her Twitch.tv stream where she chatted with Cujo Kate.
For the next hour, I introduce you to Jemmillion, get to talking about things in the eSports and FGC scene (including a very heated discussion about one Colin Murray Cowherd), and finish it up with a preview of the 2015 Capcom Cup.
