Report: DeMarco Murray told Lurie team “lost confidence” in Kelly

A few weeks ago, after the New England Patriots game, Philadelphia Eagles running back DeMarco Murray had a talk with team owner Jeffrey Lurie on the flight home. When word got out about Murray and Lurie having a meeting, head coach Chip Kelly downplayed it as if there was nothing to the talk.

That wasn’t true as according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Murray told Lurie weeks ago that the team had no confidence in Kelly. This falls into line with the reports of Kelly losing the locker room. Also in that meeting on the flight home, Murray told Lurie that Kelly had broken promises made to him when the Eagles were trying to sign him during free agency.

Obviously, this season has been not good for Murray or the Eagles. This season, Murray has only carried the ball 181 time for 633 rushing yards and five touchdowns. This is a far cry from 2014, where Murray had 1,845 rushing yards on 392 carries with 13 touchdowns.

This has been a tumultuous season for Kelly as the head coach and general manager, as none of his moves have panned out. Even though Kelly denied multiple times this season that he is not the GM.

It will be interesting to see who the Eagles select as their next head coach and where Chip Kelly lands next as he expressed to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer that he wants to remain in the NFL.
