With the Philadelphia Eagles moving on from high-priced cornerback Byron Maxwell, sending him and linebacker Kiko Alonso to the Miami Dolphins, they are now searching for Maxwell’s replacement in the secondary.
According to ESPN ‘s Josina Anderson, the Eagles along with the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins are showing interest in pending free agent San Diego Chargers cornerback Patrick Robinson. This past season with the Chargers, Robinson played in all 16 games (started in 10), had 43 tackles, eight pass deflections and an interception.
Before spending this past season with the Chargers, Robinson spent the first five years of his career with the New Orleans Saints. In his first three years with New Orleans, he had 35 pass deflections and seven interceptions.
Robinson, who is only 28-years old could be a solid acquisition for an Eagles team that has openings at both starting cornerback spots. Currently, the only cornerback on the Eagles’ roster, who started in 2015 is Eric Rowe. Despite, the rumblings about the Eagles moving Rowe back to safety, it looks as if they will keep him at cornerback.
Robinson will not be one of the first cornerbacks signed on Wednesday afternoon, so the Eagles could sign him days after the initial frenzy. For example, the Eagles could sign Robinson to a two-year deal and continue to address the cornerback position in the draft.
