Mario Williams signs with the Dolphins

One of the biggest free agent names is now off the board. Former #1 overall selection Mario Williams will sign with the Miami Dolphins as soon as the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET today. The deal will be for 2 years, $17 million, and include just under $12 million in guaranteed money.

Williams, 31, has 96 sacks and 386 tackles in his 10-year career at the defensive end position. The former Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills defensive end will remain in the AFC East, and sure up a defensive line that features talented lineman Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake.

The Dolphins will have to make the difficult decision of letting Olivier Vernon walk in free agency, after removing his transition tag this morning. Williams represents another financial commitment to the defense in Miami who have signed players like Suh, Brent Grimes, Cortland Finnegan and Louis Delmas the past three years.
