Report: Eagles among five teams interested in Andre Holmes

.

With NFL free agency set to kickoff in less than an hour, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to solidify the wide receiver corps. According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Eagles along with the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals, and Oakland Raiders are interested in free agent wide receiver Andre Holmes.

On Tuesday, FOX Sports’ Mike Garafolo reported that the Raiders were trying to retain Holmes, before the market opened up.

Holmes, the 6-foot-5, 208 lb. wide receiver had a down year in Oakland this past season, after posting a stat line of 47 receptions for 693 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2014. With the Raiders in 2015, he only had 201 receiving yards on 14 receptions (33 targets) and a touchdown.

The main reason Holmes’ production went down this past season is because of the addition of rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper, who became a favorite target of second-year quarterback David Carr.

For the Eagles to land Holmes, it will be tough as they are competing with teams who need a wide receiver. The Lions lost Calvin Johnson to retirement, the Bengals are on pace to lose both Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu in free agency and the Vikings just released Mike Wallace on Tuesday.

The Eagles could use a receiver like Holmes, who is a big target and only 28-years-old. He would be a veteran presence in the Eagles’ receiver corps, which is very young right now with Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, and Josh Huff.
