It’s no secret that the Giants needed help on the defensive front. They ranked dead last in the league in total team defense at the conclusion of the season. Surrendering an absurd 420.3 yards per game will have your front office looking for help in any form.
Well, help has arrived courtesy of the free agent pool as the New York Giants have signed former Miami Dolphins star pass rusher Olivier Vernon according to Mike Garofolo of Fox Sports. For those of you don’t watch the Miami Dolphins, this kid is a force to be reckoned with. At the ripe age of 25, he is a superb pass rusher, and in what will be his sixth season this upcoming year, he has yet to miss a game.
In 16 games for the Dolphins this past season, he finished with a career high 61 combined tackles and 7.5 sacks. His best performance came in a Week 15 loss to the San Diego Chargers in which he tallied 11 combined tackles and half a sack.
This young monster of a pass rusher will be a problem for offensive coordinators on the NFC east for the foreseeable future as he signed a lucrative five-year $85 million contract w/ $52 million guaranteed, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
