While the Eagles brought in quite a few players over the course of the week, some big names have also left town. Defensive end Cedric Thornton is the next former Eagle to find a new home.
According to ESPN, Thornton will travel across the NFC East, as he agreed to a four-year, $18 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The deal also includes $6 million guaranteed.
In five years with the Eagles, the 27 year-old racked up 172 combined tackles (120 solo), one forced fumble, and four sacks.
The decision for the Eagles not to resign Thornton was largely due to the fact that the they are switching to a 4-3 base defense. Thornton’s experience was almost exclusively in the 3-4 scheme.
Joining the division rival Cowboys will bring commendable size to their defensive front. Thornton, who is 6-foot-4, 309 lbs., also has enough athleticism to provide adequate quarterback pressure.
Needless to say, while Thornton proved to be reliable during his years in Philadelphia, his loss will not prove to be major for the team. With Connor Barwin, Bennie Logan, Fletcher Cox, and Vinny Curry in the mix, the Eagles’ defensive front will not miss a step heading into 2016.
