It is selection Sunday, and the final 68-team bracket has been released for the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Among those teams were the Villanova Wildcats, Temple Owls, and St. Joseph’s Hawks.
Villanova finished the regular season with a 29-5 record, and looked to be a one-seed heading into the tournament. However after losing to Seton Hall in a close Big East Championship game, Nova will now enter as the #2 seed in the South Region. Their first game will take place Friday against #15 UNC Asheville in Brooklyn at 12:40 p.m.
Temple’s fate was not certain prior to this afternoon, but they ended up getting their ticket to March Madness. The Temple Owls will enter the tournament as the #10 seed in the South Region, and take on #7 Iowa this Friday in Brooklyn at 3:10 p.m. Temple’s seeding was also affected by a tournament loss as they dropped to UConn in the AAC Championship semifinal game.
Of note, if both Temple and Villanova win their first round games, they will square-off on Sunday in Brooklyn.
Like Villanova, St. Joe’s came into selection Sunday already knowing they had a spot waiting for them. St. Joe’s certainty came after winning the A-10 Championship in an 87-74 victory over VCU. The #8 seed Hawks will take on will take on #9 seed Cincinnati this Friday in a West Region first round match-up. Tip-off will be at 9:57 p.m.
