Dallas Cowboys to sign RB Alfred Morris

Wild Card Playoffs - Seattle Seahawks v Washington Redskins

Across the NFC East, two offensive backfields are getting a pretty significant shake-up. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, running back Alfred Morris will sign with the Dallas Cowboys on a two-year, $5.5 million deal.

Morris was drafted by the sixth round of the 2012 draft by the Washington Redskins, and became an instant success. In his rookie season, he rushed for 1,613 yards, topping all rushers in the NFC East.

In the years following, Morris has continued to chart impressive numbers during his years in Washington. He rushed for 3,962 yards and 28 touchdowns in his first three seasons, besting most NFL rushers within that time-span.

With the addition of running back Matt Jones, Morris saw a dip in production in the 2015 season. After three straight 1,000 yard seasons, Morris rushed for only 751 yards last season, and scored just one touchdown.

With Jones being 23 and Morris being 27, the Redskins seem ready to hand over the number-one back title to the former.

Morris will join a struggling Dallas Cowboys backfield that has failed to replace the production of their former leading-leading back, DeMarco Murray.

The Cowboys are known as a team constantly looking to be in contention, though their past few seasons may say otherwise, and hope that the addition of Morris can help them compete in the NFC East.
