The New England Patriots added yet another big name to their already strong defense by signing defensive tackle Terrance Knighton to a one-year, $4.5 million deal. Knighton will join Malcom Brown, Alan Branch and Dominique Easley in a competition for playing time on the defensive line.

Knighton, 29, is a former third round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Temple University. Knighton spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Denver Broncos for two seasons and then playing last year with the Washington Redskins.
Knighton adds to an already growing list of offseason acquisitions including Chris Long, Martellus Bennett, Jonathan Cooper and Nate Washington among other big names. With no first round pick this year, the Patriots have had to seek substitutes in talent, and are doing so in an aggressive manner.
Knighton was given the nickname “Pot Roast” thanks to his tremendous size (6-foot-3, 345 pounds) and notoriety from his time in Denver. He has accumulated 230 tackles and 14 sacks in his seven-year career. He will be a great addition to the already elite defense of the New England Patriots, as they continue to look for a permanent replacement for Vince Wilfork.
