Eagles weekly recap: Blockbuster trade, draft speculation, and more

Pre Gm 2 Forwards

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Eagles weekly recap. The Eagles made a game-changing trade this week, and lot’s of talk and speculation has since come of it. Let’s get into it:

  • On Wednesday, the Eagles and Cleveland Browns agreed to a trade that gives the Eagles the number-two overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. In addition, the Eagles received the Browns’ fourth round pick in exchange for their first round pick, a fourth and fifth round pick, the first-round pick in 2017, and the second-round pick in 2018.
  • With the completion of the trade, the question now comes down to who the Eagles will land. It’s expected that they will look to grab their quarterback of the future in Carson Wentz, but EVP of personnel Howie Roseman stated in a press conference following the trade that the Eagles would be fine with taking former Cal quarterback Jared Goff if the Los Angeles Rams take Wentz first overall. Additionally, Roseman stated that the Eagles and Rams have a “good relationship” when asked whether he spoke with the Rams before the trade concerning who they will take, and that he’s certain the Eagles will get their guy.
  • A big fallout of the trade is what the quarterback situation will look like for years to come. Roseman stated in the post-trade press conference that quarterback Sam Bradford will be the starter in 2016. The wide feeling is that a successful season from Bradford would make him trade worthy for 2017, whereas a disappointing season would mean the Eagles will elect to not pick up the second-year option on his two-year deal.
  • Of less concerning than it seems news, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was not present at the Eagles minicamp this past week. Despite his absence, it is still thought that he will not be dealt, and that a deal will get done soon.
  • Following this week’s minicamp, the Eagles signed veteran wide-receiver T.J. Graham, who participated on a tryout basis. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third-round of the 2012 Draft, and has spent time with the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints.
