Despite the NBA Summer League being over, and the Philadelphia 76ers wrapping up play last Friday, the team is still making changes to their roster as they gear up for training camp in the fall.

Earlier this week, Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders reported that the Sixers signed former University of Illinois guard Brandon Paul to a partially-guaranteed deal.

However, that was not the only signing this week. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Sixers and undrafted free agent guard Cat Barber have come to terms on a partially-guaranteed deal. Barber went undrafted in last month’s draft after having a solid three-year career at North Carolina State. Barber was apart of the NC State team that upset the then No.1 seed Villanova Wildcats in the Round of 32 in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

This past season, Barber led the ACC in scoring averaging 23.5 points, along with 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 38.7 minutes per game. He also shot 43.4 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three-point range.

Barber was the only offensive scoring threat on the floor for the Wolfpack, hence why they had an overall record of 16-17 and 5-13 in conference play.

After going undrafted, Barber played for the New Orleans Pelicans in the Las Vegas Summer League. There, he averaged 6.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 11.6 minutes per game. He also shot 41.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch Barber play, he is a quick and shifty guard, with the knack to score every time he touches the basketball. Just look at this 29-point performance against Duke in the ACC Tournament, he plays with no fear.

With his partially-guaranteed deal with the Sixers, he will now get the chance to show head coach Brett Brown and the rest of the coaching staff that he deserves to be in the organization.

Currently, it is out of the realm of possibility that he could make the Sixers’ final 15-man roster as they already have Jerryd Bayless, T.J. McConnell, and Sergio Rodriguez all at the point guard position. However, if Barber performs well in training camp, he could latch on with the Sixers’ D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.
