On Sunday, rookies and selected veteran players reported to Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp, looking to make an early impression on the coaching staff, before the rest of the team reports later this week. While, the rookies were getting acclimated to their playbooks and surroundings. The Eagles had three open roster spots to fill to get to the 90-man limit.
This evening, the team announced that they have signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, linebacker Don Cherry, and safety Nick Perry.
Bethel-Thompson, 27 , was signed by the Eagles earlier this offseason but released him back in May. He now returns to the Eagles as a camp arm and could earn a spot on the practice squad.
Cherry is an undrafted free agent out of Villanova University and had a decorated four-year career. With the Wildcats, Cherry had 258 total tackles, 46.5 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, seven pass deflections, and an interception. Before joining the Eagles, Cherry was signed by the Chicago Bears after the 2016 NFL draft but was released earlier this summer.
Cherry, the 6-foot-1, 240-pound linebacker will be looking to snag a spot on the Eagles’ 53-man roster as there is not a lot of depth at the linebacker position.
Finally, Perry, who played at the University of Alabama, was an undrafted free agent in 2015, after spending last season on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. With the Crimson Tide, Perry had 119 total tackles, nine pass deflections, 6.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a sack.
