Tackle Otto adds depth on o-line

I’m a little unsure what to make of the Titans selecting another offensive tackle in the draft. They already had four tackles in Michael Roos, David Stewart, Dan Loper and Seth Wand.
Michael Otto is the latest addition to o-line coach Mike Munchak’s stable of linemen. A four-year starter at Purdue, Otto had 50 starts at left tackle, an impressive feat in the tough Big Ten conference.
The scouting report on Otto says he’s excellent in pass protection and has good mirroring skills, balance, long arms and quick feet.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher says Otto has the flexibility and versatility to also play guard. Both the scouting report and ability to move inside to guard sound a lot like a report on Loper.
It would appear that Otto will compete with Loper and Wand for a backup position on the roster, which makes me wonder if the Titans have questions about Loper’s health after his lacerated spleen last year.
At 305 pounds, Otto will need to bulk up and has the frame to add 20 pounds without losing any quickness. He’s described himself as a hard worker and says he’s spending a lot of time in the weight room.
I’m looking forward to watching Otto compete for a job in training camp.
Titans tidbits: OTAs are over and the players have five weeks off. Many of them will continue to show up at Baptist Sports Park to work out and a few will spend time with the trainers rehabbing injuries.
Players will report to training camp July 27 at the team’s BSP facilities. The Titans decided not to split training camp between Nashville and Austin Peay in Clarksville this year, which will enable me to attend more practices than I did last year.
To help you get your Titans’ fix in the meantime, I’m planning on doing analyses on all the positional groups, much like I did after the end of last season, but with the additions to and subtractions from the roster since then. I’ll look especially at which players have the best chance to make the team and who will have to battle for a job in training camp.
