The Titans grabbed a TE in the third round, selecting Craig Stevens out of California.
Stevens, a 6’4″ 252 lb TE, is described as a high character guy with good blocking skills and the ability to catch the football. His athleticism is limited, but he is a guy who provides some depth at the TE position.
This pick is a bit strange to me considering the personnel the Titans already have at TE. They just signed Alge Crumpler, and even brung back former Titan Dwayne Blakely. Of course, Bo Scaife, a favorite target of Vince Young, is already on the roster, so this pick is a little redundant, in my opinion.
I look at this selection as an attempt to bring in a blocking TE to replace Ben Hartsock, who departed for Atlanta in the offseason.
It’s very interesting that the Titans chose to select at TE this high, but in light of yesterday’s decision to draft Chris Johnson, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected with the Titans.
Next up for the Tennessee is the fourth round, where they will have three selections to play with.
