Memorial Day weekend is officially upon us. As most of us travel to see loved ones or prepare to host barbecues consisting of tons of great food, here are a few Titan-related tidbits of info to satisfy your hunger for football news.
We all witnessed Vince Youngs struggles during his nightmarish sophomore campaign in the NFL, but its startling to hear that the Titans franchise quarterback actually considered retirement last season.
Overwhelmed by the pressure associated with the burden of being a starting quarterback in this league and some family issues, Vince briefly contemplated calling it quits during training camp last year.
I really thought long and hard about it There was so much going on with my family it was crazy being an NFL quarterback it wasnt fun anymore.
Vince appears to be rejuvenated in training camp and with the presence of Dinger, hopefully Vince can step up and show signs of becoming the quarterback he is capable of being.
OTAs were in full swing last week, and Paul Kuharsky of the Tennessean recently posted his impressions of the practices.
The rookies appear to be making strides as they face off against NFL veteran competition for the first time. Chris Johnson has impressed the vets already with his tremendous speed, including one run where he outraced three veteran defensive starters down the sideline. Lavelle Hawkins also showed signs of being a nice player down the road, as he beat Michael Griffin to catch a TD pass.
Heres a nice article talking about the growing pains of 2007 third-rounder Paul Williams, as he attempts to make an impact on the playing field next year. Paul appears to be making strides and becoming a better student of the game, and recently in OTAs, his improvement has been displayed on the football field as well.
Williams said:
“Last year I kind of got humbled a little bit. I thought I was better than I really was and I didnt get on the field. This year Ive got to swallow my pride and work hard like everyone else and hopefully shine.”
Its nice to see Paul showing signs of improvement, and we can only hope that he can emerge as a factor in the passing game this season.
Have a safe and happy (and fulfilling) Memorial Day weekend.
