We’re starting to compile our list of an all-time Tennessee Titans team.
Every day, or nearly every day, in June, we’ll start a new poll on the Total Titans home page. Your votes will determine the team.
I’m going to use editorial privilege though, to declare Craig Hentrich as the punter. Hentrich only missed one game since coming to Tennessee ten years ago, so he really doesn’t have any competition at his position. No sense in having a poll on that position.
Our first team will have more than 22 players. I’d also like to include a nickelback and third (slot) receiver, since they get enough playing time to be considered starters. I’d also like to include a kicker, punter (Hentrich), punt returner and kick returner. Maybe a gunner or coverage guy. I’m even thinking about having a H-back, in addition to a tight end.
And now, on to our first poll. Who is the Titans all-time quarterback? Steve McNair or Vince Young? Each of them has been considered to be the full-time starter and though other Titans have been part-time/temporary starters, McNair and Young have been considered to be the man when healthy. Neil O’Donnell, Billy Volek and Kerry Collins have all started multiple games, but have been caretakers, not owners, of the position.
Stats | Gms | Strts | Comp | Att | Pct | Yds | Avg | TD | Int | Rate |
Steve McNair | 126 | 125 | 2,176 | 3,648 | 59.6 | 25,375 | 6.96 | 147 | 98 | 83.0 |
Vince Young | 30 | 28 | 422 | 739 | 57.1 | 4,745 | 6.42 | 21 | 30 | 69.0 |
Steve McNair was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and won a league co-MVP award. McNair’s stats listed above include only his stats as a Tennessee Oiler/Titan. They do not include his brief time as a Houston Oiler or Baltimore Ratbird.
Vince Young is the only rookie quarterback to play in the Pro Bowl and was named the league’s offensive rookie of the year in 2006.
Your votes and comments will be appreciated.
Finally, to give you an idea of what you can expect in the near future on Total Titans, after we conclude the selection of the all-time Titans team we’ll start preparing for training camp in July with previews and analysis of every position. It will be similar to what we did in January and February but will include players acquired in free agency and the rookies.
Of course, we’ll continue to discuss current events and hot topics as well. Anytime you have an idea for something you’d like to read about, please let us know. Our goal is to continue to bring you the best in Titans’ commentary and opinion and to continue to be rated as the best Titans site on the web.
