Monday morning reflections on Titans vs Jets

A good offense and a good defense both showed up at LP Field yesterday, but neither of them were wearing two-tone blue. Give credit to the Jets — they were the better team yesterday and they proved it convincingly.

The Jets looked better than their fourth-place ranking in rushing defense and their ninth-place ranking in rushing. The Titans didn’t look as good as their rankings indicated. New York outrushed Tennessee, 192 yards to 45. The Jets won the battles on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Jeff Fisher has always believed that the team which runs the ball and can stop the run will usually win. That tenet proved true once again yesterday.

The men in green ran 73 plays to 51 for the men in blue. They had a two-to-one time of possession advantage, 40:30 to 19:30. The Titans defense looked tired in the second half.

The Jets kicked off seven times and punted only once.

New York dominated in just about every phase of the game, showing why they’re the top dog in the AFC East. There’s a very good chance we’ll see them again in January. Let’s hope for a better outcome next time.

This was just one game out of sixteen and stubbing your toe a time or two is to be expected.

Now it’s a short week and on to Detroit for Thanksgiving. I’ll try to have a game preview up tomorrow.
