Catapulted by 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, the Tennessee Titans increased their improbable winning streak to three in today’s 41-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Chris Johnson did his best Marshall Faulk impersonation by going over the century mark in both the running and receiving categories. Vince Young continued his solid play with an efficient 17/25, 210 yard passing performance.
Last but not least, the defense continued their opportunistic ways by returning two touchdowns for scores in the final stanza.

All Hail CJ!
What more can be said that hasn’t been uttered about the explosive Chris Johnson?
He continued his MVP-caliber season by rushing for 132 yards and 2 scores while also contributing to the passing game with 9 grabs for 100 more. In addition to blowing by the opposition, CJ’s displayed his other talents by bouncing off a Buffalo defender and scoring on a one-yard scamper in the 4th.
In only his second season, CJ has become a complete back: a guy who is more than capable of carrying the workload while also serving simultaneously as the team’s (and perhaps the league’s) most dangerous big-play threat.
We should all thank the football gods that Johnson fell all the way to the Titans at pick #24 in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Some thoughts on the bend but don’t break Titan defense
As we’ve noticed in the last few games, Chuck Cecil’s much-maligned defensive unit has started to become experts at forcing the opposition into mistakes. After creating six turnovers combined in their last two wins against the Jags and 49ers, the Titans caused two more miscues against the Bills: interceptions that were returned for scores by Vincent Fuller and Roderick Hood.
Earlier in the game, there were times when I was reminded of the Titan defense that was the source of a lot of frustration during the team’s 0-6 start. Players were constantly missing tackles and the pass defense was allowing the likes of Terrell Owens and Lee Evans to make plays in the passing game. However, when it mattered the most, the Titan D came up with a nice performance in the 4th quarter.
This group isn’t exactly the reincarnation of the Tennessee Tyrants, but as long as they are able to keep forcing turnovers, they’ll be good enough to give the team a shot at winning games.
Final Random Thoughts
-William Hayes continued to his impress with his sack and forced fumble on the afternoon.
Jevon Kearse, who?
-Keith Bulluck was all over the field as he lead the team in tackles with 12.
Still a long ways to go before the decision will be made, but here’s to hoping KB 53 will continue to play on Sunday afternoons in a Tennessee Titan uniform beyond 2009.
-Alvin Pearman isn’t the most explosive kick/punt returner, but he does a great job of running north-south and most importantly, (are you listening Ryan Mouton?) he holds on to the football.
-For those who are counting, that’s three interceptions in three consecutive games for Rod Hood.
Boy, does he have a nose for the football!
-Speaking of INT magnets, Buffalo’s Jairus Byrd is certainly becoming one. His interception of Vince Young was the rookie’s 8th in only 9 games.
Memo to Buffalo’s remaining opponents: Avoid throwing the ball in Byrd’s direction.
