The University of Florida held its Pro Day Wednesday and the results of two participants in particular are of interest to Titans fans.
Cornerback Joe Haden helped his draft stock with 40-yard times of 4.42 and 4.43. Those were much better than his 40-yard time at the Combine, which prompted Drexel to question whether he could fall all the way to the Titans at #16.
It now appears that won’t be the case. If Haden fell out of the top ten after the combine, he should have climbed back into it, or nearly so, with his Pro Day performance. Haden also had a 4.08 short shuttle.
Florida defensive end Carlos Dunlap bettered his Combine bench press by benching 22 reps and improved his 40 time with a 4.59 and 4.69 after recording a 4.71 at the Combine. Dunlap also had a 9′-4″ broad jump on Wednesday.
Pro Days of other defensive end prospects:
Derrick Morgan’s Pro Day at Georgia Tech was Monday. Morgan benched 21 reps after skipping the event at the Combine. He reportedly underwent an “incredibly rigorous” workout for the scouts in attendance. Morgan did not run the 40-yard dash Monday.
Jason Pierre-Paul will have his Pro Day March 30.
Brandon Graham will work out April 8 at Michigan’s second Pro Day. He tweaked a hamstring on his second attempt running the 40 at the Combine. Graham ran a 4.72 in his first attempt.
Everson Griffen will have his Pro Day March 31. Griffen ran a 4.66 40 at the Combine.
Sergio Kindle, who ran a 4.71 40, will have his Pro Day March 31.
Those 40-yard times are all nice to have, but the thing I’m most interested in is their 10-yard splits. These are the split times I’ve found at various places on the web:
Derrick Morgan 1.60
Brandon Graham 1.61
Carlos Dunlap 1.61
Jason Pierre-Paul 1.65
Sergio Kindle 1.65
Sergio Kindle 1.65
It would really help Pierre-Paul and Kindle if they improve their splits. 1.65 is not considered a good time for defensive ends. Ideally, you’d like to see a time under 1.60.
Dunlap’s 1.61 is from the Combine; I don’t have his Pro Day split time yet but you have to think it will be lower.
Total Titans will be following the Pro Days of all the DE prospects and I’ll be sure to provide any updated info as it becomes available.
