In 1998, the Tennessee Titans were one of several teams that passed on the opportunity to draft troubled-but-talented WR Randy Moss.
Twelve years later, the Titans may have another chance to grab the recently-made-available Moss and according to Jeff Fisher, this time around, the team may strongly consider pouncing on the opportunity to pick up one of the league’s most dangerous wide receivers.
Adding a presence such as Randy Moss to the team’s arsenal of receivers would provide the Titans with the services of a dynamic playmaker who would open things up for everyone else. From Chris Johnson to the team’s other wideouts, all would benefit from the one-on-one matchups created due to the opposing team having to roll over their safety to double-team the dangerous Moss.
Of course, the case can be made that the emerging Kenny Britt was serving the same role in recent weeks due to his breakout performance. However, with Britt’s status in the upcoming weeks unknown due to a hamstring injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to San Diego, Moss would immediately replace Kenny and then some by serving as the team’s designated deep threat.
With a healthy Britt, acquiring Moss would create a bit of a logjam at the WR position. Considering the recent emergence of the likes of Lavelle Hawkins and Damian Williams making plays when given the opportunity, picking up Moss would undoubtedly put them back on the bench or in Lavelle’s case, probably once again on the inactive list.
With Moss hitting the waiver wire, the Titans may be beat to the punch by teams who possess a higher claim due to them having worse records, so the thought of Moss coming to the city of Nashville may not even have the chance of becoming a reality.
However, it’s refreshing that a team such as the Titans; a franchise notoriously known for not taking chances on players such as Moss, are at least considering the possibility of bringing him into the fold as they attempt to enhance their chances of unseating the Colts as AFC South division champs in 2010.
What do you think, audience? Should the Titans make a run at acquiring Randy Moss?
