There were a lot of good things that happened in yesterday’s win over the Browns, things that the Titans can build upon. Encouraging things.
The o-line didn’t push the Browns around but they did give Chris Johnson some room to run for the first time this year.
The pass protection was very good, giving Matt Hasselbeck time to throw and keeping his uniform clean.
CJ bested the elusive 100-yard mark for the first time in six games.
Jared Cook contributed a big play, scoring on an 80-yard catch and run.
Damian Williams had his first NFL touchdown.
Matt Hasselbeck spread the ball around, connecting with six different receivers for 220 yards.
A group effort was needed to help offset the loss of Kenny Britt’s production and it happened on Sunday, which bodes well for the rest of the season.
The Titans had only five penalties for 45 yards, a big improvement over last week. They didn’t fumble and Hasselbeck had only one interception.
The defense gave up 350 passing yards, but it took Colt McCoy 61 attempts to get it, a paltry average of only 5.7 yards per attempt. When sacks are factored in, McCoy averaged only 5.1 yards per passing play. The Titans allowed McCoy to throw underneath but didn’t give up any big plays.
Cortland Finnegan, Jason McCourty, Will Witherspoon, Barrett Ruud, Jason Jones, Derrick Morgan and Michael Griffin all played well.
Jordan Babineaux lived up to his nickname, Big Play Babs, with his 97-yard pick six. Griffin made a great tackle to stop a Browns fourth down attempt. Morgan, Akeem Ayers and Karl Klug all had sacks.
Special teams were also a factor. The dog that didn’t bark in the night was Browns KR/PR Joshua Cribbs, who was held in check.
These were the good things I noticed in the game. These are things the Titans can build upon as they prepare for the Steelers this week. If I made lists of the bad and the ugly things, those lists would be much shorter than the good things that happened.
