Titans 2013 training camp, 8/02

In Friday's trip to training camp, I decided to go to the second field where the o-line and d-line have their areas for positional work. As it turned out, the team spent nearly 45 minutes split up into their position groups, much longer than I can ever remember the Titans doing before, and I was able to get some pictures of both lines.

The d-linemen were split into two groups, with d-line coach Tracy Rocker working with the defensive tackles and pass rush coach Keith Millard taking the defensive ends. The DTs spent most of their time hitting sleds while the DEs worked on pass rush technique. Millard placed special emphasis on hand usage in one segment.

For what it's worth, Karl Klug, who is listed as a DE/DT this year, spent the entire session with the DEs. This was my first time this year observing the d-linemen in position work, so I don't know if Klug had worked with the DTs before or not during this camp. When I watched the 11v11s a few nights ago, the only time I noticed Klug on the field was at RDE, both in a 3-man and a 4-man line.

The o-linemen were all together for a while, until Mike Munchak came down to the o-line area. He worked with the tackles while OL coach Bruce Matthews was with the centers and guards.

The linebackers came down to the DL area briefly; I don't believe any of them hit the one-man sled more than once before returning to their area.

That's Scott Solomon, #90, on the right. He's a full-time linebacker now, no longer a defensive end. If he makes the 53-man roster, he won't have to change his number but I wonder if he will.

Hill is a large man but somehow he doesn't seem to be as big as Shaun Smith was a few years ago. His waistline is definitely smaller.

Bruce had Warmack, Spencer and Levitre working together today. Later, when the o-linemen joined the rest of the team for some 11v11, the trio was with the first team offense.

The position group work then concluded and the Titans regrouped for 11v11 and other team work. The price one normally pays for watching the linemen in their positional work is the opportunity to get a real good view of the remainder of practice, so I unfortunately don't have anything of note to write about it and didn't take any more pics. As always, I hope you enjoyed viewing the photos and they helped convey some of the feeling of training camp.
