The scoreboard at the end of the game read Minnesota Vikings 24 – Tennessee Titans 23. In my book, the Titans can consider their fourth and final preseason game a win as they avoided suffering any apparent major or even minor injuries.
In terms of the on-field action, most of the first-team offense played one drive, as did most of the first-team defense. The Titans got 3 points on that first drive, the Vikings 7 in a first half that went very quickly until a scary head injury to Vikings lineman Seth Olsen. The game was mostly back-and-forth, not being decided until Rusty Smith couldn't handle a low shotgun snap from Brian Schwenke in the final minute.
The low snap was not his fault, but failing to at least fall on the ball was part of an up-and-down night for a player on the bubble like Rusty, who threw both an interception and a touchdown in a game he played over half of. Tommie Campbell's roster spot seems to be safer, but he was another player who did not seem to do much to improve his standing with a bad whiff in space on a Vikings touchdown. In a similar category was Jack Doyle, who caught Rusty's touchdown but also fumbled.
Next up: the cutdown to 53. If they do things like they did them last year, the Titans will probably start cutting players tomorrow. I will be keeping Total Titans updated as I can with the cuts, plus analysis of the 53-man roster that will be before launching into the season preview material next week.
