With their third-round pick, #66 overall, the Tennessee Titans selected Utah offensive tackle Jeremiah Poutasi.
It was recently reported Poutasi had a private workout for the Titans. I haven’t had a chance to watch him yet. He was 6’5″ and 335 pounds at the combine and fits the same basic mold of the offensive tackles the Titans seemed to be interested in, a powerful run-blocking right tackle who needs to develop a lot as a pass blocker. He’ll enter into the starting right tackle mix with Byron Bell and Byron Stingily, but I would rate him as pretty likely to not win that battle as a rookie. Then again, I think that would be okay with the Titans.
Poutasi was kind of off my radar. I hadn’t expected him to go that early-my go-to on offensive line play, Lance Zierlein, did the draft profiles for NFL.com this season and had Poutasi as a player who would be well-suited by a move inside to guard and one he projected to go in the fifth round. I don’t have anything more, and certainly not more intelligent, to add to what Lance wrote. But the Titans seemed to have a type, and Poutasi fit it. I really wonder just how bad T.J. Clemmings’ foot injury is, because I thought he was a substantially more talented player than some of the offensive tackles that have been selected. With the Rams taking Rob Havenstein already, who I really thought would and should be there for pick #100, tackle shifted from a priority to a must, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Poutasi was the next player on the list in St. Thomas Sports Park.
