Report: Titans receiving ‘significant interest’ in first overall pick

The Tennessee Titans may have a decision to make on whether or not the team keeps the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

According to Peter King of MMQB, the Titans have received “significant interest” in the No. 1 pick, with King now believing it is “50-50” on Tennessee keeping the pick or trading it away.

One year after taking Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 overall pick, the Titans have no interest in taking a quarterback at the top of the draft. However, other teams—such as the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams or Philadelphia Eagles—have long-term needs at the position and could swing a deal with Tennessee to ensure they get the quarterback they desire at No. 1 overall.

Carson Wentz of North Dakota State and Jared Goff of Cal are the heavy favorites to be the targets of any team moving up to the top spot.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson has made it clear that he is willing to play ball with the No. 1 pick.

“We’d be open to moving the pick,” Robinson said. “I think some heard that I wasn’t open to moving, or we weren’t open to moving the pick, which is not true.”

A trade up to the first overall pick in a draft hasn’t happened since 2001, when the Atlanta Falcons moved up to take quarterback Michael Vick. The Washington Redskins sent four draft picks—including three first rounders—to the Rams for the opportunity to draft Robert Griffin III at No. 2 overall in 2012.

If the Titans keep the pick, King believes Robinson will be deciding between Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and Florida State defensive Jalen Ramsey. Both will visit Tennessee this month.

The 2016 NFL draft begins April 28.
