Well guys, we did everything we were supposed to do against the Miami Heat. We had a strong first and second quarter, outscoring them 60 – 53 in the first half. The problem would be that we didn’t plan on Kemba earning 2nd degree sprain in the 3rd quarter. We’re a really good team, and I fully believe we could have beaten the Heat, had Kemba not gotten hurt.
Everything was going right for the Bobcats on Saturday night. Big Al had 22 points, Gerald Henderson had 11, Josh McRoberts had 10, and Kemba Walker was having a stellar point guard night again with 8 assists, 2 steals, a block, a rebound and 6 points. Fouls were a bit of a deciding factor where the Bobcats had Hendo with 5 and McRoberts, MKG, and Al, each with 4. The Heat had no one in foul trouble. That didn’t surprise me a bit. Here’s where things get interesting…
The Bobcats had a stellar 1st half. I can’t really complain about anything that they did. The second half was the deciding factor. Look at the 3rd and 4the quarter points that were on the board (16, 14, and 6 in overtime if you were wondering). We do our best scoring off of assists. When Kemba went down, the heart of those assists also went down. He was struggling with his shots, but he could always find Al in the post. Once he was out of the game, it was like Sessions couldn’t get the ball into the post for Al to go to work. The result was that they settled for jumpers, and got few offensive rebounds (we got 4 the whole game).
I can’t complain at all about this game. We gave it our all, and we even took the Heat to overtime. We shot 48% from the floor and even 41% from the 3-point line. These are great stats for a team that struggles to hit shots.
Big Al continues to play well, notching yet another double-double on Saturday. I can’t wait to see how today pans out. We are facing the Raptors today, and hopefully we can come away with a win. I would expect to see some of Jannero Pargo on the floor today. We haven’t seen a whole lot of him, as is the case with the 3rd point guard in the depth chart. He was a strong player for us last year, and he knows the system, so his time on the court today should be great to see. I have a sneaking suspicion that we may even see some of Ben Gordon on the court today as well. Healthy players are becoming few and far between with Kemba, Taylor, and Haywood out, recovering from injuries/surgeries. Times like these really show the strength of a team, and the amount of depth and solidarity they have. Today can be our first test.
