There are nights where I complain about losses. I blame the refs, poor defense, bad shooting, or some other reason that I can’t think of right now. There are other games where you just have to say WOW. Tonight was one of those WOW nights. Carmelo Anthony broke the scoring record in Madison Square Garden by posting 62 points. Al Jefferson was 1 rebound shy of a double double tonight, scoring 25 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Sadly, no one else was close to him in scoring. This team will not win many games when it can’t have at least 2 starters averaging above 18 points a game. We need points, and we did not get them. Chris Douglas-Roberts had 14, Ramon Sessions had 12, and Jannero Pargo had 11. That was it for double-digit scorers tonight. Hendo had an abysmal 8 points, McRoberts had 6, and MKG had 4. I suppose we were destined for a loss tonight, but the record performance hopefully draws attention away from our crappy numbers.
I can’t completely blame bad scoring by our starters on our loss because besides Melo’s 62, JR Smith had 14, Raymond Felton had 11, and Tim Hardaway Jr. had 10. Melo even had a double double tonight grabbing 13 rebounds to go with those 62 points…with no assists, no turnovers, no steals, and no blocks (just sayin’). When a player is on fire like Melo was, unless your team has some firepower that can answer back, you really don’t stand a chance. We still lack that firepower.
Tomorrow night the Bobcats will face the Chicago Bulls on another of our “Buzz City” nights. Hopefully everyone can get back into the groove of playing some basketball and we can grab a home win before we head out on another road trip.
