You’re reading that title right, folks. For the second time in Bobcats history, the Charlotte Bobcats beat the Dallas Mavericks by a final score of 114 – 89. What’s that? How did they do it? How in the world did the Bobcats beat the Mavericks by that much? No, Dirk was not out of the game. Just keep reading to see how it all went down.
I first want to apologize for the lack of a recap for Saturday’s game. Let me just say that migraine headaches are a bear to overcome and that was the only recap we have missed all season. We lost 104 – 100 in a fairly well played game. Let’s move on to tonight’s win…
A well-played game is simply what put the game out of reach for the Mavericks. The Bobcats scored 45 field goals off of a franchise-record, 42 assists. That is quite a remarkable number for any team, but that also lets you know that we were getting buckets at an alarming rate. How alarming? Let’s just let the 54.9% field goal percentage do the talking. No? How about the 50% 3-point shooting, led by Anthony Tolliver grabbing 5-10 from the floor and finishing with 22 points on the night. If assists are your forte, how about Josh McRoberts finishing with 13 assists, 9 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. I mean, Kemba Walker had 9 assists of his own to go with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 7 points. We even had Ramon Sessions with 8 assists & 5 points. Big Al fans can keep on smiling as Mr. Jefferson gave us 30 points on the night. He also contributed 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.
Gerald Henderson had 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists while Bismack Biyombo was a perfect 5 – 5 from the floor, scoring 10 points, grabbing 4 rebounds and blocking 1 shot. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had a quiet night, scoring only 4 points, blocking 2 shots, dishing 3 assists, and grabbing 2 rebounds.
Rounding out the rest of the team:
Cody Zeller – 5 points / 7 rebounds / 2 assists
Jeff Adrien – 4 points
Jannero Pargo – 3 points
Honestly, we did everything right, including holding the Mavericks to shooting 45% from the floor, and just out-hustling them for all 4 quarters. Dirk did get hurt in this game, but he did come back in the second half and continue to play. He and Monta Ellis were their top scorers with 16 points each, but no other Maverick player was in double figures.
One note for the Bobcats:
Kemba Walker left the game early in the 4th with some “tightness” in his Achilles tendon (same ankle as he sprained against Miami). Let’s hope he will be ready for game 2 of this latest back-to-back. The Bobcats board a plane to Brooklyn tonight. Let’s hope we didn’t use all of our energy and firepower up tonight, and we can carry the momentum into Brooklyn to snag a victory, and roll into the All-Star weekend.
Everyone keep their ears to the ground because it is pretty apparent that Michael Jordan is looking to make moves by the trade deadline (Feb. 20th) to make a hard push in the playoffs. Many names are dancing around right now, but the Bobcats are pretty well known for holding their “cards” pretty close, so that no one knows what is going to happen. We’ll all just have to speculate and see what happens.
