Last night’s Hornets game was one that left me scratching my head. I was in attendance for the game. My sons and I were part of the group that gave the team high-5s as the took the court, and we were honored to hold the giant flag on the court during our national anthem. Those were the bright spots of my attendance at the game.
Watching the actual game, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist actually came to play. He had a double-double in the first half. Big Al had 19 points, MKG had 11, and Gary Neal had 10. No one else was much of a contributor.
The game was a real slow one to watch as both teams shot under 40%. Big Al had 4 blocks on the night, but the poor shot percentage was just that; poor shooting. This game wasn’t full of defensive stops, just bad shooting.
There’s some concerns I’m having about the team right now. Seeing them in warm-ups and in-game, I have concerns. Lance struggled to be consistent in warming up before the team took the floor, and it had him visibly upset. In the game, it seemed as though no one wanted to take charge on offense. The simple inside-out game with Al and Kemba wasn’t exactly there, so everyone else just looked confused. MKG was on fire, so his limited minutes in the second half was confusing. No Kemba until the last 4:30 of the 4th was also “not a good thing”.
In my mind, I thought we would see at least Hairston on the floor as we were struggling to score the ball. We didn’t. We did see Hendo, and as I watched him play, I began to wonder how we did as well as we did with him starting.
There’s lot still to be learned before we look comfortable on the floor. The hope of an undefeated season is now over and now that the pressure from that is gone, we can buckle down and get comfortable with each other. Hopefully we ca bounce back today against the Knicks, and get above .500.
