The Charlotte Hornets have acquired guards Mo Williams, and Troy Daniels from the Minnesota Timberwolves for guard Gary Neal, and a 2019 second-round pick per Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
This deal comes just a day after reports indicated talks between the two teams had stalled.
Charlotte seemed to be determined to bolster their back-court in the extended absence of Kemba Walker, who is expected to miss at least three more weeks. Williams, 32, is averaging 12.2 points per game this season, and, ideally, will stabilize Charlotte’s point-guard rotation, which called for Lance Stephenson, and Gary Neal to run the point at times.
Though a questionable disposal of a draft pick, there is less uncertainty in Charlotte now, as Williams will likely play off of Kemba Walker once he comes back. Troy Daniels is an interesting prospect that can shoot the three very proficiently when given the chance, though he may not find a spot in Charlotte’s rotation should Williams take Neal’s spot once Walker returns. Daniels will be under contract next season, and will possibly find a way into the rotation, assuming a free agent isn’t signed, as Williams is not expected to be re-signed after this season.
The Hornets take on the Detroit Pistons tonight; their new acquisitions are not expected to be available to play.
