Wolves 89, Bobcats 109

After the Wolves had played pillow-soft defense for 48 minutes in a
109-89 loss to a Charlotte Bobcats team Tuesday at Target Center,
Wittman strode to the podium, looked at the boxscore, shook his head
and spoke his mind.

It was a disappointing loss, he said, one of the most disappointing in
a long time. On a team that has lost 47 of 59 games this season, that’s
saying something. The effort wasn’t there, not from the start, not at
the end, Wittman said.

Now the Wolves hit the road for five of the next six
games. They have the worst road record in the NBA (2-25). The Jazz have
won 16 consecutive games at home and will be eager to avenge the loss
in Minnesota.

There’s no chance of beating Utah if the Wolves play
the way they did against Charlotte. The disparity in free throws made
was glaring: Bobcats 29, Wolves 9, a sign the Bobcats were the more
aggressive team.

From the AP recap:
Al Jefferson had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who seemed to be turning the corner in Year One of the Post-KG Era early last month when they won five of seven.

But they lost their second straight game at home to one of the worst teams in the league, following Sunday’s overtime loss to Seattle.

Due to Corey Brewer’s thigh contusion and a Rashad McCants’ stomach virus, Tuesday’s starting lineup was the 23rd used by head coach Randy Wittman, a franchise record. Accordingly, it was the first start for Kirk Snyder, who was charged with defending Jason Richardson. Wittman emphasized that the Wolves needed to simplify things on offense as Snyder continues to learn the sets, and Snyder did struggle at times early. Still, he managed two points, two boards and a terrific block while limiting Richardson to five points in the quarter.

Wittman wasn’t happy, either. Afterwards he talked about how he gave
the guys an easy day of practice Monday trying to save their legs.
About how the team played the same way Tuesday the way thay practiced
Monday. And then Wittman made a vow: No more easy practices.
