Wolves Updates 08/28

Mike Trudell/Timberwolves site talks to Randy Foye about what he’s been up to this offseason (audio).

Adam Sweeney/SLAM Online with a list of players who should be considered to play for the US Men’s Basketball Team  for the 2012 Olympics:
Al Jefferson – Any player who can
make Minnesota fans feel ‘okay’ without the likes of Kevin Garnett
deserves consideration. Not only is he one of only five players
averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds a game, Jefferson is a quick scorer
who will clear the defensive board. Yes, you will surrender a bit of
defensive intensity when you put him in, but consider the fact that he
could play next to Oden and things don’t seem so unstable down low. We
would guess that Jefferson also would be motivated to step up his
defensive prowess around the rest of Team USA.

Jason Fleming/Hoopsworld grades the Northwest Division:
Minnesota added a dynamic scorer in the form of swingman Mike Miller from Memphis in the same deal they moved the rights to guard O.J. Mayo for the rights to forward Kevin Love. They already had a dynamic scorer in guard Randy Foye and a 20-10 machine in center Al Jefferson; points will not be a problem in the Twin Cities. The depth is suspect but young, and Minny will hope some of these young guys – Corey Brewer, Rashad McCants – become key members of the team and help fill in some of the perceived holes. Keeping forwards Craig Smith and Ryan Gomes, plus guard Sebastian Telfair, for relatively cheap will help this team when it comes to continuity. Count the Timberwolves as the second team in the division definitely better in 2008-09.
