Wolves Updates 09/08 Part 2

Though he considers this year’s donations a success, Gomes, who became
the father of a baby girl in July with his wife, Danielle, has even
more ambitious goals for next season. "We want to donate in the
remainder of the NBA cities and then try to get to college basketball,"
Gomes says. "That’ll be tough since there are [341] D-I programs,
though some already have them."

Florida Gators men’s basketball head coach Billy Donovan, who spoke at
Gomes’ charity golf fundraiser and benefit dinner for Hoops for Heart
Health in June, said that he and many other members of the basketball
community are following Gomes in trying to help spread the word…

Gomes’ organization is also encouraging AED legislation, which varies state by state around the country.

On how the Wolves will perform this season:
I can’t tell you they’ll
be good, but they won’t be "awful," either. Mike Miller and Kevin Love
alone will be worth the price of admission. If a couple of their young
guys respond to the extended playing time they’ll get with relatively
little pressure, it could be a fun year in Minny. But they’re a couple
of years away from really being good.

On the trade for Love and his predictions for this season:
I think the Wolves got a great deal. Kevin Love is a really special player – on and off the court – and Mike Miller is as clutch as they come. These two guys will be great in the community as well as on the court. I don’t think this team is close to being a playoff team, but they do need to give Foye, Telfair and Brewer all the minutes they can to see if they’ll blossom or if they need to be ejected next summer.
