Love, the fifth player chosen in the June draft, is the cover boy on this season’s EA Sports’ College Basketball ’09 video game. He credits the UCLA mystique and his team’s run to last season’s Final Four for what he calls a "late birthday present." Love, who turned 20 on Sunday, was chosen instead of Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, Mayo and college teammate Russell Westbrook, the draft’s first four picks.

"If you saw the cover, you would know that’s not why," Love said when asked if he was selected because of his handsome mug.

Adam Rose/Los Angeles Times catches up with Kevin Love before he heads back to Minnesota:
AR: More out of respect than anything else, if you could dunk on anybody in the league this season, who would you want it to be?

KL: Out of respect! Make sure you put that on the record!

AR: I’ll think about it … OK, I promise.

KL: Probably Kevin Garnett. Just because he was defensive player of the
year and I’ve played against him up here in the Men’s Gym. Plus he was
in Minnesota, so … trying to get back at him! That’d probably be it.

They’re back in town this week for Mankato Pridefest,
the annual celebration put on by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender community. This year’s festival will be dedicated to the
Reitans and the work all three have done since Jake came out during his
junior year in high school…

The sponsor list, Flatequal said, was a little
surprising when she first saw it. The list includes first-time sponsors
such as New Ulm Furniture, Dutler’s Bowl and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“More and more of the community is getting involved,” Flatequal said.
