Wolves Updates 12-1 Part 2

The Wolves have two players on the roster in Rashad McCants and Rodney Carney who could move in and take some of Brewer’s minutes, but McHale didn’t rule out a possible roster move.

“We’ll see what happens,” he said. “When someone who’s playing a role on the team goes down, then other people get a chance to step up and we’ll see what happens.”

The Charlotte Bobcats’ quest for a center took a turn for the bizarre this afternoon, with word leaking out from several Internet sources that they were close to a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves…
What it means for the Bobcats is that they’re going to have to find their center solution somewhere else, and the rumor of the day today has that solution lying in Minnesota. According to various reports, the Bobcats and Timberwolves are discussing a trade that would send Raymond Felton to the Wolves for – get this – Rashad McCants, Jason Collins, and a pick…
Rashad McCants’ minutes, like his play, have been up and down in the last three games, and Wolves coach Randy Wittman said there’s an easy way for his streaky shooting guard to change that.
“He can’t be one-dimensional,” Wittman said. “I thought the five minutes he played in the game before he got hurt, that’s how he’s got to play. Attacking the basket. Not coming in and just searching for threes and jacking shots up, quick threes in the middle of the second quarter. He can do more than that. He’s got to come in and show me that’s how he’s going to play. And if it isn’t, we’ve got to put guys on the floor that are going to do those things. Now he’s capable of doing it. That’s what I’ve told him. And if he does those things, then he’s going to play.”

McCants is at a crossroads in his young career. As a Timberwolf, he has morphed from rookie to injured sophomore to a third-year player looking for a defined role. Now, as a sixth man in the early stages of his fourth season as a professional, the expectations have been issued but the proverbial jury has yet to issue its verdict.

“The people who don’t know me assume things about me,” McCants once told “INK,” a tattoo magazine. “I’m a private person and a lot of times people take that the wrong way. When I step on the court, I’m there to get the job done and win. Some people are all smiles, but I take my job seriously as a professional, and some people don’t understand that.”

Looking at the bright side, the play of the Timberwolves has improved since the early weeks of the season. But looking at the realistic side, a last second win over an inferior opponent (that was saying the same about the Wolves earlier in the season) and another loss to a divisional opponent on your home court is not exactly progress with giant steps.
